with Duke Chorale
John Rutter’s music has been a significant part of choral music for decades, reaching tens of thousands of singers and charming listeners with its simple elegance. As Rutter turns 75, the Choral Society pays tribute to his remarkable compositional career by performing his Requiem, one of his most gripping and dramatic works. French composer Louis Vierne, who was the principal organist at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris for 37 years despite being legally blind, wrote his Solemn Mass for 2 Organs and Choir while serving as assistant organist to Charles-Marie Widor at church of St. Sulpice. We honor him on his 150th birthday and grieve the devastating damage done to Notre Dame Cathedral through the rampaging fires last spring.
