Support the Choral Society of Durham
Our donors make our performances possible
Because of you, CSD is able to sing!
In 2022-2023 the Choral Society of Durham performed multiple times. We sang pieces by Cecilia McDowall, Libby Larsen – with handbells – and others, in December at Duke Chapel. In March audiences thrilled to “Where We Find Ourselves” by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm and Cecilia McDowall’s “The Girl from Aleppo”; Duke University then invited us to repeat that performance in April. Mid-May’s concert was the majestic B minor Mass by Bach. We recorded a selection of the season’s works that was distributed in November to nursing homes and other facilities where the residents are unable to attend our concerts in person. We offered three virtual singalongs, plus the return of the popular Messiah sing-along. Smaller groups sang at the Boxyard in RTP, at The Leaf in Durham, Hillcrest Convalescent Center, and at Carnegie Hall.
Thank you for all you did during this past year in support of the Choral Society of Durham. Because of you, we were able to sing!
2023-2024: Our 75th season!
We have an exciting new season planned, with both live concerts and virtual outreach events. Your generous support enables us to keep ticket prices low and expand our community impact. For example, we expect that we’ll be collaborating with groups including the Raleigh Youth Choir, Durham Children’s Choir, and Durham Symphony this season. And we will cap our 75th year with a community sing in June of 2024 that will feature your voice, joined with those of CSD and other Durham choruses.
Woven through all we do: The Community Collaboration Fund.
Our CCF allows us to bring diverse works to diverse audiences in diverse venues, and to collaborate with other local arts organizations (see our 75th season plans for examples).
An anonymous lead donor gave us a great start with the expectation that we will raise an additional $75,000 to reach our goal of a $500,000 endowment. Your donation to the CCF will help ensure us a bright, collaborative future! The proceeds from this endowment will fund specific projects each year to aid CSD’s community-building mission:
